The social vein of Sassu’s early work, still imbued with Futurism, is here rendered through the image of two figures at work. The strong chromatic dominants of red and black could suggest a link with Expressionist models, known indirectly from magazines. In reality the picture presents instead a reinterpretation of "classical" Futurism. The indisputed point of departure remains Boccioni, with his model Previati, but a correspondence in manner can also be noted with Sassu’s friend Giandante X, who was conducting his own artistic research in a state of isolation. Nonetheless not completely devoid of contact with artists working in Milan, he developed his work on the figure in those same years.
