Numerous variations exist in Sassu’s oeuvre of the men who accompanied Jason on his search for the Golden Fleece. As with the red men and the men rolling dice, here too is revealed the artist’s need to propose characters linked both to myth and to the contemporary moment. Represented for the most part in surroundings with no precise connotation, they suggest at the same time the memory of a primeval world and impressions taken from contemporary events. In this case the protagonists of the utopia of the journey toward the unreachable stand out in the foreground, silhouetted against a sky and sea in the same chromatic range, with their nude, sculpted bodies brushed by an occasional stroke of blue.
