Sassu realizes this canvas, dedicated to the sacred theme of the Resurrection, utilizing strong chromatic contrasts, like that between the sky and the low mountain range in the background, rendered in dark colors, and the scene where the miraculous event takes place, in which he adopts a sunny palette of yellow, ochre, and red. The same desire for contrast is seen in the central group: the figure of Christ with outstretched arms, at this point completely devoid of earthly physicality and fully aware of what has happened - note how his feet barely graze the open tomb - is counterpoised to the three figures of a completely different nature, abandoned in sleep or bent over, turning in on themselves in their grief.
